The operator of a 2005 Multiquip 25Kw generator arrived at their jobsite and discovered that their piece of construction equipment was stolen sometime during the night. The operator contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report that their generator was missing. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the generator’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers. This routine police procedure automatically transmits an activation command to the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery transponder concealed in the generator to begin broadcasting its signal.

Later in the day, while on routine patrol, a Miami Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal emanating from the stolen 25Kw generator on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The officer began tracking the stolen generator by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the generator in the 300 block of N.W. 59th Terrace. The generator was recovered, released to the operator, who responded to the scene and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.
