The owner of a 2005 Nissan Altima contacted the Reading Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen while parked in the City of Reading.  The Reading PD Radio dispatched a uniform officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the Nissan owner and then surveyed the area for the subject vehicle. When the Nissan could not be located, the officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and arranged to have the stolen vehicle information entered into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

The Berks County Auto Theft Task Force monitors all stolen vehicle activity in the area and became aware that a LoJack equipped vehicle had been reported stolen by the Reading PD. The task force members spread out across the county with undercover police vehicles which are equipped with LoJack Police Tracking Computers. The task force members subsequently picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Nissan with the PTC’s.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the investigators tracked the signal to a residence located in the Exeter Township. The investigators placed the location under surveillance and notified the Exeter Township Police Department regarding the situation. The Exeter Township PD officers arrived and assisted the undercover investigators. Short time later officers observed a male exit the property and escape into a wooded area. Investigators approached the residence and obtained a consent to search the property. Inside the garage the investigators located the stolen Nissan which was partially disassembled. The Nissan was confiscated and the investigation into this incident continues with arrests anticipated in the near future.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Nissan Altima in November 2004 at Hudson Nissan in Jersey City, New Jersey.
