The owners of a 2010 John Deere backhoe contacted the California Highway Patrol North Sacramento Area to report that their backhoe was stolen. The owner, a rental company, indicated the backhoe was out on rent and had been stolen from a job site that the renter was working at. The John Deere was stolen sometime during the night.
The CHP verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the John Deere.

Less than 15 minutes later, deputies from the Sacramento Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen John Deere with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the backhoe to the 3300 block of Monier Circle which is a commercial business area. There the deputies observed the backhoe parked and abandoned.

The renter and rental company were notified and responded to take possession of the backhoe.

The LoJack® System was installed in the John Deere in August 2010 via Commercial Installation.
