The owners of a 2000 Ford Ranger contacted the Greer Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their electrical business during the night. The Ford was a parts/errand vehicle having some debris in the bed. No suspect or witness was known at the time of the theft report.
The Greer PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford.

A short while later deputies from the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Ford to a residence off Belvedere Drive in Duncan; approximately 10 miles from the theft site. The pickup was unoccupied but persons at the home stated a known male had driven the pickup there during the night but had left the home just prior to the deputies’ arrival. The person of interest has had criminal history including incarceration for similar crimes. A cell phone of the interested person was found in the cab of the pickup as well as other personal property.

The Ford Ranger was photographed and processed for latent evidence prior to being released to the victim owner. No contact has been made with the person of interest and property not owned by the victim has not been released as of this writing. The investigation remains open and active.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford Ranger in April 2006 at Rogers Stereo Inc. in Greenville, South Carolina.
