The owners of a 2011 BMW contacted the Atlanta Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the drive way during the night. The owner was going to a movie, went back in for a few minutes and when he returned it was missing from his driveway.

The Atlanta PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

A short while later officers from the Atlanta PD Auto Theft Unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the BMW to a parking lot where it was found abandoned.

The officer suspected that some juveniles took the BMW for a joy ride and ran out of gas. The BMW was recovered in excellent condition and returned to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the BMW in February 2014 at United BMW in Roswell, Georgia.
