The owner of a 2010 Nissan Versa contacted the Chicago Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from the 3300 block of N Troy Ave in Chicago’s Avondale neighborhood. The victim who lost his keys contacted the Chicago PD who verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Nissan.

Minutes later Police Officers from the Albany Park District using the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft picked up the signal from the stolen Nissan. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the stolen Nissan was tracked traveling south and west bound from the officers’ location. A flash message was broadcast with the vehicle description and direction. Police officers from the Grand Central District looking for the Nissan found it parked and unoccupied on the 2400 block of N Hamlin Ave in Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood.
Police on scene stated they believe the offender(s) noticed increased police activity in the area and ditched the stolen Nissan. The Nissan was recovered with no damage in less than an hour after it was reported stolen and returned to a grateful owner. Police investigation into the Nissans theft continues.
