The owners of a 2016 Toyota Corolla contacted the Roseville Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The victim indicated that the suspect came into their car dealership on two prior occasions and attempted to buy this Toyota. He was told both times he did not qualify for the purchase. He came in again with a different sales crew, asked for a test drive, then distracted the sales person and drove off with the Toyota.
The Roseville PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Corolla.
A short while later officers from the California Highway Patrol and Solano Sheriff’s Department were advised of the vehicle’s location after the LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota was picked up with a LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers and deputies were directed to the Toyota’s general location which was to the rear area near the Fairfield Auto Mall. The officers then observed the Toyota being driven by the suspect on Raleigh Dr. south of Auto Mall Parkway. The officers conducted a felony traffic stop and took the suspect into custody without incident.
After questioning, the suspect was arrested for auto theft and booked into the Solano County Jail. The suspect had numerous prior arrests including auto theft and is currently on felony probation.
The victim was contacted and had a representative take possession of the recovered Toyota.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2016 Toyota Corolla in September 2015 at a new car dealership in Roseville, California.
