The owners of a 2015 Yanmar Excavator contacted the Houston Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their construction site sometime during the previous weekend. The unit had been secured on Friday at the end of the work day and found missing the following Monday morning.

The Houston PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the State and Federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the excavator.

A short while later officers from the Houston PD, Special Theft division, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Yanmar excavator with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the excavator to a large building near the intersection of OST and Griggs Road where the unit was located inside the building. Arrest are pending as soon as the the person or persons in charge of the building can be identified.
