LoJack® System Helps South Bend Police Department Recover Stolen Land Rover Range Rover

The owner of a 2004 Land Rover Range Rover contacted the Mishawaka Police Department to report that his vehicle was stolen from the shopping mall where he owned his store.  He believed he had dropped his keys in the parking lot. The Mishawaka PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Land Rover.

Early the next day a vehicle equipped with the LoJack Tracking Computer (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft picked up the signal from the stolen Land Rover. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC the stolen Land Rover was tracked to a garage in the 1000 block of Adams Street in South Bend. The South Bend Police Department conducted an investigation on scene and was able to gain entry to the garage where the stolen Land Rover was recovered. It was observed the plates which were on the vehicle had been removed and temporary Indiana license plate tags had been put on the stolen Land Rover. South Bend Officers obtained suspect information and processed recovered stolen Land Rover recovering latent prints suitable for comparison. Police investigation into the stolen vehicle recovery continues.

The owner of the Land Rover Range Rover was extremely pleased that he recovered his car in less than 24 hours undamaged before it could be stripped, cloned, or used in a crime.
