The owner of a 2009 Toyota Corolla contacted the North Miami Beach Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen sometime during the night. The police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.
Later that morning a Miami-Dade Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Corolla on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The officer began tracking the stolen Camry by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the Camry abandoned and properly parked in an apartment complex parking lot in the 1000 block of N.W. 84th Avenue. The officer contacted the district auto theft unit, who responded to the scene and set up surveillance of the Camry. After several hours the surveillance was terminated with negative results. The Camry was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2009 Toyota Corolla in January 2009 by Toyota of Hollywood in Florida.
