The owners of a 2004 BMW 745I contacted the Sacramento Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The victim indicated she was with several friends shopping when one asked to go retrieve something from the victims BMW. She gave him the keys and he never returned. She did not give him permission to take the BMW.

The Sacramento PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

Just 10 minutes later, officers from the Sacramento SD and Sacramento PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The Sheriff’s Aviation unit Star 6 also received the hit. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the BMW to the area of I-80 and El Camino; the sheriff’s deputies conducted a felony traffic stop.  Five individuals were removed from the BMW and detained. After questioning, the driver was arrested and booked for auto theft.

The LoJack® System was installed in the BMW 745I in November 2003 by Rally Motors in Roslyn, New York.
