The owner of a 1999 Toyota Camry contacted the Houston Police Department to report when he pulled into his residence driveway he was approached by two subjects armed with a sawed off shotgun. The suspects demanded he drive them to an ATM machine and withdraw cash. After the subjects obtained the cash they forced him out of the Toyota and drove away.

The Houston PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the State and Federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Camry.

A short while later officers from the Houston PD Westside Command picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Toyota to a public street where officers observed one male subject sitting in the driver’s seat. The driver attempted to drive away but was blocked in by patrol vehicles and the driver was quickly arrested without incident. A short barreled shotgun was found on the passenger’s seat. The driver confessed to the carjacking and robbery. He was charged with aggravated robbery, kidnapping and felon in possession of a firearm. The partner was identified and warrants issued for his arrest.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Camry in March 1999 by Mike Calvert Toyota.
