The owner of a 1997 Honda Accord contacted the Los Angeles Police Department to report his vehicle was stolen by an alleged “Car Jacking.” The Police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Accord.

Four (4) minutes later officers from the LAPD Newton Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, they tracked the Honda to 89th St east of San Pedro and located the vehicle. As they drove past the Honda and made a U-turn, two females were seen entering the Honda and drove off. The Honda was followed to a service station on San Pedro where a “high risk” stop was conducted resulting in the detention of two females, one of which matched the description of the suspect in the “Car Jacking.” A field investigation led to the discovery of a large amount of Narcotics in the purse of the driver. The driver claimed to have just purchased the Honda for $400 and showed a signed bill of sale. She was arrested and later booked on felony charges. The passenger was released at the scene. Case referred to the station auto theft detectives for follow up. The Honda was stored for safe keeping and later released to the victim.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Honda Accord in December 1996 by Honda of Santa Ana, CA.
