The owner of a 2001 Toyota Corolla contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen from the area of Pan American and Office in the Valley Area Command. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

Within 30 minutes of the activation, Officers with the Albuquerque PD Northeast Area Command picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their marked patrol and undercover vehicles. Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the officer located the stolen Toyota parked in an apartment complex parking lot. While the officer was waiting for backup, the Toyota left the scene. The Toyota went mobile and drove side streets avoiding the heavy rush hour traffic. Additional officers, from the Albuquerque PD and the New Mexico State Police, equipped with LoJack PTC’s arrived in the area to assist in locating the stolen Toyota. An Auto Theft Detective in an unmarked vehicle equipped with a PTC picked up the LoJack signal in the area of Paseo del Norte and 4th Street. The Toyota was located in a restaurant parking lot unoccupied and parked in the back lot out of view from the roadway. The Toyota was processed for evidence and released to the happy owner at the recovery scene.
