LoJack® System Helps Albuquerque Police Department and New Mexico State Police Recover a Stolen Chevrolet Silverado

The owner of a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen. The Chevrolet was stolen from the area of Wyoming and Academy in the Northeast Area Command. The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.
Within minutes of the activation, Officers with the Albuquerque PD and the New Mexico State Police picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in their marked patrol and undercover vehicles. Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the officers determined the Chevrolet was mobile. The Chevrolet was tracked into the Valley Area Command where Officers and an Auto Theft Detective located the vehicle. They made a high risk stop with the stolen Chevrolet taking the driver into custody. The Auto Theft Detective took over the investigation. The Chevrolet was released back to the happy owner at the recovery scene. This is the second time this Chevrolet has been stolen, tracked and recovered by law enforcement using LoJack PTC’s in New Mexico.
The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 in April 2001 by Davis Chevrolet in Houston, Texas.
