The owner of a 2004 Land Rover Range Rover contacted the Monroe Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen during the early morning hours from a residential driveway on East Village Drive.  The Range Rover had been secured at the residence around 2AM.

The Monroe PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Land Rover.

Later in the day of the stolen vehicle report, officers from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s Aviation Unit were flying a routine  “see and be seen” flight when they picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Land Rover with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the aviation unit tracked the Land Rover to a downtown location near West Trade Street.   The CMPD patrol units were called to the area to locate the Land Rover sitting at W. Trade and N. Cedar with three persons occupying the vehicle.  Officers approached the Land Rover, conducted a field investigative interview and confirmed the stolen vehicle.   The driver and the other two occupants stated the driver had just picked them up a few blocks north of the traffic stop.  The driver was arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle; the other two subjects were released without charges.  The Land Rover was towed and stored until the owner could travel the thirty miles from Monroe to take possession of the Land Rover.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Land Rover Range Rover in September 2003 by Manhattan Ford/Lincoln/Mercury in New York, NY.
