The owner of a 2010 Chevrolet Suburban sport utility vehicle walked outside of their home to empty the garbage. A short while later, they went outside to get the mail and discovered their Chevrolet missing. They contacted the Orange County Sheriff’s Office to report that their vehicle stolen. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

Later in the day an Orange County SO deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Suburban on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The deputy began tracking the stolen Suburban by following the directional and audible cues on the PTC screen. As the Suburban was occupied and moving, the deputy requested the OCSO Aviation unit to respond. Chase 3 responded and picked up the surveillance of the moving Suburban. Unmarked patrol cars responded as well. Once the unmarked units observed the Suburban they waited until the vehicle was stopped. The Suburban drove into a motel in the 9400 block of Delegates Drive, where a “felony stop” was performed. Three occupants were detained for further investigation. Investigation revealed that one suspect was driving the stolen Suburban and was unable to clearly state how he got the vehicle. He was charged with Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Trespassing in a Conveyance. The other two suspects were charged with Trespassing in a Conveyance. The Suburban was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2010 Chevrolet Suburban in January 2014 by Atlanta Toyota in Duluth, Georgia.
