The owners of a Ford F250 pickup contacted the Tucson Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from the driveway of their residence sometime overnight.

The police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford.

Four minutes later, deputies from the Pima County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Tucson PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies and officers tracked the Ford to a neighborhood in the east side of Tucson.

The Ford was found unoccupied on a residential street near Camino Seco and east Broadway Road.  Detectives from the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force responded to the area and conducted an extended surveillance on the stolen Ford.  No suspects were observed coming back to the stolen Ford, so it was later recovered and processed for evidence.  The Ford was returned to the owners at the scene with damage to the ignition and door lock.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford F250 in August 2000 by Fiesta Lincoln-Mercury in Mesa, Arizona.
