The owners of a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse contacted the Oroville Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The owner is a used car dealership in the City or Oroville. They stated an individual came in, purchased the Mitsubishi, completed a false credit application and gave a forged check for the car.

The Oroville PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mitsubishi.

The next morning officers were contacted and advised that the stolen Mitsubishi had been tracked by a LoJack Police Tracking Computer. The PTC picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mitsubishi.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers were directed to the area of La Merida and Skyline Drive in a rural area east of the city of Oroville. The PTC indicated the residence the stolen Mitsubishi was parked. Officers checked and determined the suspect may live at this residence and that he was on probation. Officers contacted the resident and determined he was in fact the person who took the car. The Mitsubishi was located at the rear of the property.

The suspect was arrested for auto theft and forgery. He had a prior record for forgery and other theft crimes.

The victim was contacted and responded to take possession of their Mitsubishi.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mitsubishi in January 2005 by Roseville Mitsubishi in CA.
