The owners of a 2013 Hyundai Sonata contacted the Colonial Regional Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from Northampton County, Pennsylvania. The Colonial Regional Police Department dispatched an officer to investigate the incident. The officer quickly arrived on location, interviewed the vehicle owner and searched the area for the stolen Hyundai. When the Hyundai could not be located, the officer prepared a stolen vehicle report and arranged for the vehicle information to be entered into the state and federal crime computers. This entry automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Hyundai.

The members of the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force closely monitor any and all stolen vehicle activity in Lehigh and Northampton Counties. The investigators became aware that a LoJack equipped stolen vehicle entry had been made to the National Crimes Information Computer. The investigators are assigned undercover police vehicles that are equipped LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  The investigators fanned out across the area and soon intercepted the LoJack signal being broadcast from the LoJack installed in the stolen Hyundai. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the investigators tracked the signal to the area of a local hospital. The investigators placed the stolen Hyundai under surveillance for a short time with negative results.

The auto theft investigators confiscated the Hyundai for safekeeping and notified the Colonial Regional PD of their actions. The incident remains under investigation by the Lehigh County Auto Theft Task Force.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2013 Hyundai Sonata in September 2013 by O’Brien Hyundai in Ft. Myers, Florida.
