The owners of a 2004 Ford F150 contacted the Los Angeles Police Department-Mission Division to report that their vehicle was stolen.

The LAPD officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford.

Twelve (12) minutes later, the LA County TRAP (Taskforce for Regional Auto Theft Prevention) received the LoJack activation on their fixed post, Police Tracking Computer, which is located in their office. The detectives responded with their portable units into the field. The detectives picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the detectives, along with the LAPD “Air 10” flight officers, tracked the Ford to the area of the 800 block of Tobias Ave. The Ford was parked to the rear of a large apartment complex.  As the Detectives deployed on the stolen Ford it went mobile. Patrol units from the LAPD Mission Division responded to the location and conducted a felony traffic stop. The driver was taken into custody for auto theft related charges without incident.

The Ford was released to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford F150 in December 2004 by Maroone Ford of Miami in Florida.
