The owner of a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup truck contacted the Miami Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen sometime during the night.

The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

Later that morning a Miami PD officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen F-150 pickup on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC).  The officer began tracking the stolen F-150 by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the F-150 inside of a police impound yard near N.W. 25th Street and North Miami Avenue. Further investigation revealed that the F-150 had been in a hit and run accident earlier in the day before it was reported stolen and was towed to the tow yard. The F-150 was recovered, left at the tow yard and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2001 Ford F-150 in August 2000 by Quirk Ford in Quincy, Massachusetts.
