The owners of a Chevrolet Tahoe contacted the Tucson Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from the parking lot of their apartment complex, sometime overnight.

The police verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

A short time later, officers from the Tucson PD and detectives from the Arizona Vehicle Theft Task Force picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers and detectives tracked the Chevrolet to a neighborhood in the City of South Tucson.

The Chevrolet was located unoccupied in a parking lot.  The detectives conducted an extended surveillance on the Chevrolet with negative results.  The Chevrolet was later recovered and processed for evidence.  The Chevrolet was towed from the scene for safekeeping and later returned to the owners with damage to the ignition.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Tahoe in June 2000 by O’Rielly Chevrolet in Tucson, Arizona.
