The owner of a 2002 BMW 325 contacted the Albuquerque Police Department to report the vehicle was stolen.  The owner stated his daughter had possession of the BMW and had a medical emergency requiring transportation via ambulance.  The BMW was left on the side of the road and when he returned to pick up the BMW it was gone.  This occurred in the Albuquerque Police Department’s Northwest Area Command.

The Albuquerque PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the BMW.

Within five minutes of the activation, officers with the Albuquerque PD Southeast Area Command picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen BMW with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the stolen BMW to a mobile home park where it was found abandoned.  The BMW was processed for evidence and released to the happy owner at the recovery scene.

The LoJack® System was installed in the BMW 325 in August 2002, by BMW of North Scottsdale in Phoenix, Arizona.
