LoJack® System Helps Arcadia Police Department Recover Stolen Honda Civic

The owners of a Honda Civic contacted the Glendale Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from the street where the vehicle was parked during the times of 6 AM to 2 PM.
Officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda Civic.
A short while later officers from the Arcadia Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Honda to the 900 block of W. Huntington Dr. where the vehicle was located parked in a carport of an apartment building. A perimeter was set in place while the handling unit kept surveillance. The surveilling officer noted the license plate apparently had been stolen from another vehicle and that too had been reported stolen this date. Within a half hour, a male adult was observed approaching the Honda and entered the driver’s side removing a can of spray paint. He then approached the hood of the car and began painting the primer hood. Officers deployed on the suspect taking him into custody without further incident. On his person was found a set of lock picks and “shaved keys,” common tools used by many car thieves used to steal older cars. After a field investigation, the suspect was arrested and later booked for felony grand theft auto, possession of drug paraphernalia as well as possession of burglar tools.
It should be noted this was the second time this Honda had been stolen since 2009, tracked and recovered both times.
