The owners of a 2011 Chevrolet Camaro were visiting from Texas contacted the Detroit Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from a relative’s driveway overnight.

The Detroit PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

A short while later troopers from the Michigan State Police picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Chevrolet with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the troopers tracked the Camaro to a residence in Detroit.  The troopers determined that the signal was coming from a detached garage.

Surveillance was established and the South East Auto Theft Team (SEATT) was notified and responded to the residence.  A search warrant was obtained and executed.  The stolen Chevrolet was found in good condition in the garage along with three stolen engines.  The suspect was later arrested and charged with a chop shop and receiving stolen property.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Camaro in July 2011 at Freedom Chevrolet in Dallas, Texas.
