The owner of a 2015 Toyota Tundra pickup truck contacted the West Palm Beach Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen for the second time in two weeks. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime information computers.

While on routine patrol a Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Tundra on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC).  The deputy began tracking the stolen Toyota by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC’s screen. The deputy observed the Toyota being driven and notified the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office Auto Theft Task Force and Aviation units, who responded to the area of the sighting. The deputies then established a “loose” surveillance on the moving Toyota so that there would not be a chance of a “chase.”  “Eagle 1” (aviation unit) and the unmarked units followed the stolen Toyota into a parking lot on the southwest corner of Haverhill Road and Okeechobee Boulevard, where the occupant of the truck exited the vehicle and walked into the drug store. The deputies entered the store searching for the suspect and located them in the rest room. The suspect was apprehended and promptly arrested for Grand Theft Auto. The pickup truck was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, and removed from state and federal crime information computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2015 Toyota Tundra pickup truck in February 2015 at Lipton Toyota in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
