An investigator from the Philadelphia Police Department Major Crimes Auto Squad was in the area of Northeast Philadelphia and was checking locations where stolen vehicles had been located on prior occasions. The investigator checked an apartment parking lot in the far northeast section of the city and observed a 2014 Land Rover Sport with a Maryland license plate. A check of the vehicle identification number of the Land Rover revealed that the vehicle was not in stolen status. The investigator was suspicious of the Land Rover and noted that there was a plate on the front bumper noting the car dealers name and phone number. The investigator called the dealership and was advised that they were not missing a 2014 Ranger Rover from their inventory.
The investigator continued his duties of checking for stolen vehicles and monitoring Philadelphia Police Radio. The investigator overheard Philadelphia Police officers calling police radio with a LoJack reply code and police radio responding with a description of a 2014 Range Rover. The investigator returned to the area of the previously investigated Range Rover and noted that a silent LoJack signal was being emitted from the Range Rover and was being intercepted with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. The investigator again made contact with the car dealership and was informed that they had discovered the Range Rover was in fact missing from their inventory and had reported same stolen to Montgomery County Maryland Police. The Major Crimes Auto Squad investigator conferred with the Maryland PD and the Range Rover was confiscated and secured at the Philadelphia PD Major Crimes Auto Squad HQ. Investigators from the Montgomery County Maryland Police Department will take possession of the Range Rover and process same for physical evidence.
The LoJack® System was installed in the 2014 Range Rover in November of 2014 at Manhattan Lincoln-Mercury in Rockville Maryland.
