The owners of a 2004 Toyota Camry contacted the Horry County Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from her home.

The Horry County PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

A short while later officers from the Horry County PD and the Briarcliffe Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Camry with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Camry while it was being driven on the streets around Conway, South Carolina. The officers attempted a felony stop of the Toyota with the assistance of several patrol vehicles. The driver refused to stop when signaled and attempted to evade the officers by turning into an apartment complex where he struck a parked car in the parking lot. Three subjects jumped from the Toyota and fled. One subject dropped a handgun on the pavement in the effort.  Officers gave chase and apprehended two of the subjects.

An inventory of the Toyota Camry revealed crack and powder cocaine. The two suspects were charged with Leaving the Scene, Driving Under Suspension 3rd/Habitual Offender, Possession of Crack Cocaine, Possession of Stolen Property, Possession of Cocaine with Intent, Felon in Possession of a Firearm and also a seizure of cash.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Camry in May 2004 at Carmax #7806 Laurel Toyota in Laurel, Maryland.
