A local auto dealership discovered a 2006 Dodge 2500 pickup truck was missing from its lot without permission.  The dealership contacted the Las Cruces Police Department to report the Dodge was stolen.

The Las Cruces PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge.

Within a short time of the activation, an officer with the Las Cruces PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Dodge with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the audible and directional cues from the PTC, the officer immediately observed the stolen Dodge occupied by a male driver and a female passenger.  While the officer was verifying this as the stolen Dodge and waiting for his backup to arrive to make a high risk stop, the male driver took off at a high rate of speed attempting to elude the officer.  The male driver was not successful in his eluding attempt and crashed into a fence.  The male driver then took off on foot leaving behind his female passenger in the stolen Dodge.  Officers were able to locate the male driver and took him into custody for further investigation.  The female passenger was also taken into custody.

The Dodge 2500 pickup was recovered and will be released back to the dealership.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge 2500 in March 2008 at Spradley Ford Lincoln Inc. in West Pueblo, Colorado.
