The owner of a 2005 Lexus GX470 contacted the Richton Park Police Department, a far Southwestern Suburb of Cook County, to report their vehicle had been taken in a garage burglary. The victim, an off duty Cook County Sheriff’s Officer, was on vacation in Georgia when a neighbor called. The neighbor aware the Officer was on vacation inquired into why her garage was open and her Lexus was missing. The Officer contacted the Richton Park PD who verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lexus GX470.

A few hours later a Sergeant from the Chicago Police Department’s Canine Unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Lexus with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the Canine Sergeant tracked the Lexus to the 9100 block of S Burnside Ave in Chicago’s Chatham neighborhood.

The 2005 Lexus GX470 was found parked unoccupied in a residential driveway. No response from the residence. Richton Park PD was notified of vehicle recovery and circumstance thereof. The Lexus was recovered undamaged and towed by Chicago PD for investigation.
