The owners of a 2006 Mercedes Benz CLK contacted the Columbus Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their driveway.

The Columbus PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes.

A short while later pilots with the Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) Aviation Unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the pilots were able to determine an approximate area the Mercedes was at and relayed that information to ground units equipped with LoJack PTC’s.

Troopers located the Mercedes in a parking lot and set up surveillance on it for a short while.  The Mercedes was impounded and later returned to the owner.  This matter is to be further investigated by the OSHP Vehicle Theft Unit.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes Benz CLK in January 2006 at Mercedes Benz of Nanuet in New York.
