The owner of a 2004 Lexus RX-330 sport utility vehicle was filling their tires with air at a gas station, near N.E 6th Avenue and 149th Street, when a subject asked them what time it was. After giving the subject the answer, they were then facing a revolver pointed at them. The subject took the owner’s Lexus and drove off. The owner contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report their Lexus stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers.

Later that morning, a North Miami Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Lexus on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The officer began tracking the stolen Lexus by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. The officer observed the stolen Lexus and when the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, the occupants fled. The thief stopped the Lexus in the 14000 block of N.E. 3rd Court and fled on foot. A Miami-Dade Police Department helicopter was overhead and observed the suspect run and jump into a nearby canal. The suspect was apprehended, arrested and ultimately transported to the Dade County Jail. The Lexus was recovered, released to the owner, who responded to the scene, and removed from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2004 Lexus RX-330 in October 2006 at Countyline Lexus in Hollywood, Florida.
