The owner of a 2007 Harley Davidson XL contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Wilshire Division to report his motorcycle was stolen.  The owner allowed an acquaintance to ride the motorcycle but it was never returned.

The LAPD Wilshire Division verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Harley Davidson.

A short while later the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department “Air 21” picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Harley Davidson with the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the LASD Air 21 tracked the Harley Davidson to a fast food parking lot on Pacific Coast Highway in Lomita.  The Harley Davidson was parked with no one near the motorcycle.  The LASD Air 21 requested the LASD patrol officers to respond.  As the LASD patrol officers were arriving in the area, a male subject exited the fast food restaurant and got on the Harley Davidson.  The subject rode the Harley Davidson out a back ally and onto Western Avenue.  An arriving deputy heard Air 21 giving public address commands to the subject on the Harley Davidson to stop the motorcycle.  The patrol deputy took over the stop of the Harley Davidson and was able to successfully stop and arrest the driver.  The Harley Davidson was recovered without damage and later returned to the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Harley Davidson XL in November 2006 at Bartels Harley Davidson in Marina Del Rey, California.
