The owners of a Mercedes CL55 AMG contacted the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their home overnight.

The Berkeley County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Mercedes.

Minutes later, deputies from the Berkeley County SD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Mercedes with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Mercedes to an industrial area of the county.

The Mercedes was located, undamaged and intact, parked in the rear of an auto mechanic’s garage. The owner of the garage knew the owner of the Mercedes and had performed mechanical repairs on the Mercedes. The garage owner was arrested and the investigation is continuing.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Mercedes CL55 AMG in December 2003 at Mercedes Benz of Miami, Florida.
