The owners of a 2008 Toyota Matrix contacted the Phoenix Police Department to report that their vehicle had been stolen from a parking lot near the 3000 block of south Central Avenue.  The owner had parked the Toyota and went hiking on the trails.   When the owner returned the Toyota was missing.

The Phoenix PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota.

Eleven minutes later, officers from the Phoenix PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Toyota to a neighborhood near 40th Avenue and McDowell Road in Phoenix.

The Toyota was found unoccupied on a side street in the neighborhood.  The Toyota was recovered and processed for evidence.  An investigative lead has been identified as police continue to follow up on leads in this case.  The Toyota was later returned to the owners in good condition.
