The owner of a 1998 Chevrolet Malibu contacted the Miami-Dade Police Department to report their vehicle stolen from their home. The Miami-Dade PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet.

Immediately upon activation, an Aventura Police Department officer picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Malibu on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC).  The officer began tracking the stolen Chevrolet by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. At the same time an officer from the Miami-Dade Police Department was tracking the Chevrolet as well. The officer got into the area where the stolen Chevrolet’s signal was emanating, saw each other, and knew the competition now began as to which officer was going to locate the vehicle first. The Aventura PD officer succeeded. The officers located the Chevrolet unoccupied in a shopping center parking in the 1800 block of Miami Gardens Drive. As the Chevrolet was located in North Miami Beach Police Department jurisdiction, they responded. It was at this time that the owner advised the officer that they had lost a spare key to their Chevrolet and that it might have been used to steal the vehicle. The Chevrolet was recovered, released to the owner who lived nearby and responded to the scene. The Chevrolet was removed from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 1998 Chevrolet Malibu in October 1997 at Kelley Chevrolet Geo in Hallandale, Florida.
