The owners of a 2012 Chevrolet Corvette contacted the Houston Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residential driveway at 10200 Wallisville Road in Houston, TX.

The Houston PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Corvette.

A short while later officers from the Houston PD picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Corvette with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Corvette to a storage facility at 800 Montana Street Houston, Texas. Officers called the Houston PD auto theft to respond with a Hand Held Tracker in order to narrow down the exact storage unit in order to obtain a search warrant.

As the storage unit was identified the manager of the storage facility came to the location and called the renter to the location. The renter gave officers written consent to search and opened the door to the storage unit. Inside the officer located the stolen Corvette and an additional stolen 2013 GMC pickup. The Corvette engine had been removed and the front clip of the GMC pickup had been removed. All the parts were located inside the storage unit. Three suspects were taken downtown for questioning and processing for felony theft. This is an ongoing investigation into a chop shop operation and possible insurance fraud.
