The owner of a 2006 Landrover Range Rover sport utility vehicle met some “ladies” at a “club” and after a night of partying invited them home with him. The next morning when the owner woke up, he discovered his “friends” were gone, along with his keys to his sport utility vehicle and his vehicle. The owner contacted the Sunny Isles Beach Police Department to report their Landrover stolen from his home. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically transmits an activation command to the LoJack Stolen Vehicle Recovery transponder concealed in the Landrover to begin broadcasting its signal.

A short while later, a Miami Beach Police Department officer, working off-duty, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Range Rover on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The PTC enables law enforcement officers to track, locate and recover stolen vehicles quickly and safely. The officer began tracking the stolen Landrover by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. The officer, along with their backup, located the Landrover near Washington Avenue and 14th Street. The Landrover was recovered, released to the owner, who responded to the scene, and removed from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2006 Landrover Range Rover sport utility vehicle in May 2006 at Landrover of North Dade, Florida.
