The owner of a 2011 Hyundai Sonata contacted the Prince George’s County Police Department in Forrestville, Maryland, to report that their vehicle was stolen from the 3600 block Forrestville Road while refueling the Hyundai with the engine running and keys in the ignition. An unknown person jumped into the Hyundai and drove away.

The Prince George’s County PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the 2011 Hyundai Sonata.

A short while later, officers from the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police in Washington, DC, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen 2011 Hyundai Sonata with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the Hyundai to the 2900 block Texas Avenue SE in Washington, DC. At that location, officers observed the Hyundai parked and unoccupied. Officers recovered the Hyundai and contacted the owner.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2011 Hyundai Sonata during February 2011 at Pohanka Hyundai in Marlow Heights, Maryland.
