A friend of the owner’s granddaughter borrowed their 2010 Dodge Caliber sport utility vehicle to go to the store. After three hours, the grandmother was concerned. The grandmother waited another three hours and contacted the Broward County Sheriff’s Office to report their Dodge stolen from their home. The responding deputy prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers.

Immediately upon activation, a Broward County Sheriff’s Office deputy picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Caliber on their on-board LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC). The PTC enables law enforcement officers to track, locate and recover stolen vehicles quickly and safely. The deputy began tracking the stolen Caliber by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC screen. The deputy, along with their backup, located the Caliber in the 1500 block of N.E. 31st Street and performed a “felony stop” on the Caliber. The suspect (the friend of the granddaughter) was arrested for Grand Theft Auto. The Caliber was recovered, released to the owner, who responded to the scene, and removed the Caliber from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Caliber in March 2012 at Al Hendrickson Toyota in Coconut Creek, Florida.
