The owner of a Caterpillar Backhoe 446B reported the machine as stolen to the El Paso Police Department.  The El Paso PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Caterpillar.

Deputies from the Dona Ana County Sheriff’s Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Caterpillar with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the Caterpillar to a residential farm.  The deputies made contact with the property owner and received permission enter the property.  Deputies located the stolen Caterpillar and recovered it on the scene.  The Caterpillar was towed from the scene to be released to the owner at a later date.
