The managers of a construction project in Superior, CO, arrived at the jobsite to discover that during the night someone had broken into a gated storage area and stole a 2006 Chevrolet Silverado.  The managers promptly notified the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office and a deputy was dispatched to investigate.  The deputy verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Chevrolet Silverado.

Just 25-minutes later the trooper/pilot with the Colorado State Patrol’s Aviation Unit picked up the silent LoJack signal from the truck with the LoJack Police Tracking Computer (PTC) installed in his Cessna airplane.  The airborne trooper located the truck in Arvada and vectored in police units.  Soon ground units from multiple police agencies (Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Arvada PD, Wheat Ridge PD, Westminster PD, Golden PD, Colorado State Patrol and Thornton PD) were also picking up on the signal with their PTC’s that are installed in their patrol cars.

As the suspect in the stolen Chevrolet became aware of the CSP aircraft overhead and patrol cars moving into the area he bolted in the truck.  Ground units were told to back off in hopes that the suspect would stop his reckless driving.  The CSP aircraft continued to monitor the stolen Chevrolet’s every movement.  The suspect continued to drive crazily for the next 30 or 40 minutes through several jurisdictions and including a school zone.  Finally, the Broomfield PD was able to successfully deploy “tire spikes.”  However, the suspect continued his reckless driving and left the road near US-285 and US-36 and drove along railroad tracks until losing control and rolling the Chevrolet down a 20 foot grade.  The suspect attempted to flee but was arrested as several Broomfield PD and Boulder County Sheriff’s officers were in the area. The suspect has a long criminal history which will now be added to.  He went to jail.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Chevrolet Silverado 8-years ago and wasn’t needed until this theft.  LoJack was available to deliver a valuable service when needed!
