The owner of a 2006 Ford Explorer contacted the Reno Police Department to report that their vehicle was stolen. The victim indicated he left work and when he got into the parking lot he discovered the vehicle was taken sometime during the day.

The Reno PD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Ford Explorer.

Less than 10 minutes later, officers with the Reno PD and a unit from the Carson City Sheriff’s Department, who was transporting a prisoner to Washoe County Jail, picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Ford with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers and the deputy tracked the Ford to an apartment complex in the southern part of the city. The officers located the Ford parked and abandoned.

The Ford was towed and stored for safe keeping to be released to the owner later.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Ford Explorer in March 2006.
