The owner of a 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck parked in the parking lot of their home. The next morning they discovered their Ford missing. The owner contacted the Fort Myers Police Department to report their Ford stolen. The responding officer prepared a stolen vehicle report, theft affidavit and had the vehicle’s information entered into the state and federal crime computers. This routine police procedure automatically activated the LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System concealed in the pickup truck.

Later that evening, a Collier County Sheriff’s Office pilot (Air-2) picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen F-250 on their on-board LoJack® System Police Tracking Computer (PTC), which assists law enforcement officers to locate stolen vehicles quickly and safely. The pilot began tracking the stolen Ford by following the directional and audible cues on their PTC. The pilot located the Ford in the backyard of a house in the 600 block of 10th Avenue N.W. The pilot advised the ground units where the Ford was located. The pilot, using their infrared system, advised the ground deputies that the Ford was “hot”. The pilot also observed the driver of the Ford exit the vehicle and walked towards the rear of the house. The subject was apprehended. All the occupants of the house were detained until the investigator could arrive and determine the situation. The investigator arrived, sorted out all the information and arrested the driver of the Ford. The Ford was recovered, towed to the police impound yard for safekeeping, along with a 2004 Ford F-550 pickup truck, and removed from federal and state crime computer systems.

The LoJack® System was installed in the 2005 Ford F-250 pickup truck in October 2004.
