The owners of a 2003Toyota Camry contacted the Harris County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from a retail store parking lot while they were shopping.

Harris County SD verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Toyota Camry.

A short while later officers from the Houston Police Department picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Toyota Camry with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers located the Toyota travelling South bound on I-45 North Freeway. Officers activated their emergency lights in an attempt to stop the Camry. The Toyota sped up attempting to evade the officers. A brief chase ended on Crosstimbers near I-45 freeway when the Toyota stopped and the two suspects ran from the Toyota. A brief foot chase ended when both suspects were apprehended. Theft and controlled substances charges were filed on both suspects.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Toyota Camry in May 2003.
