The owner of this Volkswagen Passat contacted the Montebello Police Department and reported that their vehicle had been stolen.  Apparently the Volkswagen was left with the engine running in the driveway while the owner went back into the residence for something. The officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Volkswagen.

A short while later Los Angeles Sheriff’s flight deputies in Air-7 picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Volkswagen with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the flight deputies tracked the Volkswagen from the west portion of Downey and notified ground units from the Downey PD of the tracking.  The Downey PD units responded and upon seeing the helicopter circling, located the Volkswagen parked and unoccupied on Firestone Place and Old School Rd with its engine running.   The undamaged Volkswagen was recovered and stored for safe keeping.

The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Volkswagen Passat in June 2014.
