LoJack® System Helps Los Angeles Police Department Recover Stolen Honda in Chop Shop Discovery

The owner of this Honda CRV contacted the Los Angeles Police Department Rampart Division and reported that vehicle had been stolen. The officers verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers, which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Honda.
A short time after the initial activation, officers from LAPD Hollenbeck Division picked up the silent LoJack signal from the stolen Honda with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft. Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the officers tracked the vehicle to an apartment in the 4200 block of Abner St. When checking the property, officers discovered that the stolen Honda CRV had been covered up with a blue tarp. They also noticed numerous engines, transmissions and various other vehicles which had been stripped. A Commercial Crimes Detective arrived on the scene as did station auto theft Detectives. Another vehicle, a 1990 Honda Prelude was also impounded from the location. The recovered Honda CRV was processed and later stored for safe keeping. Detectives have classified this incident as a “Chop Shop”. Suspect information was developed and follow up will continue by Hollenbeck Auto Theft Division.
The LoJack® Stolen Vehicle Recovery System was installed in this Honda CRV in November 1997.
