A car dealership on South Tacoma Way became a vehicle theft victim when a perspective “customer” took a Lexus LS430 for a test drive with a salesperson.  When they returned to the dealership and started to complete the sales paperwork, the salesman had to go to a back office for additional forms.  The customer asked if he could retrieve something from the car.  The salesperson allowed him to do so.  The thief pocketed the keys, got in and drove off at a high rate of speed.  This was witnessed by several dealership personnel who called the Tacoma Police Department.  The report was verified and they entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Lexus.
Within four minutes of activating the LoJack, the same Tacoma officer that took the theft report picked up the silent LoJack® homing signals from the stolen Lexus on the LoJack® Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.

He quickly tracked the signal to the Tacoma Mall where he observed the vehicle parked against the curb near an entrance.  He then saw two males exit the mall heading toward the Lexus.  They were both taken into custody.  One was released as he had no knowledge of the theft.  The other was positively identified by dealer personnel and was booked into jail.  The car was released to the dealership that took it in on trade and did not know it was equipped with LoJack

The LoJack® System was installed in the Lexus in January of 2007.
