The owners of a Dodge Durango contacted the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department to report that their vehicle was stolen from their residence in Vista.

San Diego police County Sheriff’s Department verified the theft and entered the vehicle information into the state and federal crime computers which automatically activated the LoJack® System concealed in the Dodge Durango.

Twenty minutes later, deputies from San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Helicopter Unit (ASTREA) picked up the silent LoJack signals from the stolen Dodge Durango with the LoJack Police Tracking Computers (PTC) that are installed in patrol vehicles and aircraft.  Following the directional and audible cues from the PTC, the deputies tracked the vehicle to the 800 block of Moa Street in Vista.  Ground units were directed to the location where the stolen vehicle was parked.  After a short foot pursuit, a male was arrested for vehicle theft, possession of stolen property, under the influence of controlled substance, possession of burglary tools and an outstanding felony warrant. The vehicle was recovered undamaged.

The LoJack® System was installed in the Dodge Durango in December 1998.
